Final GDD

This week I finalized my Game Design Document. I put a lot of effort into my GDD this week and improved on what I was lacking this week. Although I found in some sections that I was unsure of how to answer, I tried my best to provide all content in all relative areas. I enjoyed using Dundoc to create my GDD as it provided templates and sections which indicated what I should answer and what I should write about. I found Dundoc to be extremely helpful in allowing me to produce the Game Design Document for my game and I'd definitely use it again if Ii ever create another game.

For the rest of the semester I plan to work hard on creating my game and making it to the best of my ability. I hope to be able to create the game that I've spent so much time developing and designing as I do encounter difficulty with Unity sometimes.

  1. Hi Robyn!,
I really enjoyed reading through your Game Design Document on your DunDoc. I found that you went really in depth with your topics and it was very detailed. It was really good overall. Good job! I feel that you really know what exactly it is that your doing with your game and that clearly cam across to me, as i was reading your GDD. I really enjoyed reading about your game plan and idea because i found it to be really cool. I feel like you know what your doing and where you will go from here. Your overall game concept is quite intriguing i must say! I can't wait to see you develop your prototype for your game further. I'm sure it will be great. I'm looking forward to seeing how you would go about creating a prototype and how it will appear once its completed. Anyways, Great blog post and Game Design Document!,

  2. Hey Robyn!
Thank you for the comment on my blog. I really enjoyed reading your Dundoc. It's well detailed and nicely written, I can tell a lot of effort went into it. I like that the game has a remote island setting. The games colour choice is very unique, it will make the game stand out. Your game reminds me of "Professor Layton and the Curious Village" game on the Nintendo DS.

I'm curious to know what happens when the player solves all of the riddles. I would recommend getting the visuals of your game out of the way first so you can focus on the coding side of things. You could add a timer to the game possibly? Players could compare how long the riddles took them to solve. Good luck with making the game in Unity, It will definitely be really fun to play when finished.

  3. Hiya Robyn, i really like your game idea, the story is very orignal and sort of feels very mysterious and i love it, i like the idea of solving mysteries and this game seems to have all the thrills you would expect from a big game, i love the concepts behind it all.
If i can i would like to make a few suggestions, first would be maybe you could add 2 endings to the game, one where you find and free her and one where if you ask the wrong questions the kidnapper could get scared and just kill her and you end up taking revenge in order to bring justice for her murder.
another thing could be maybe adding in clues that when clicked on could give you more persuasive abilities to make people tell you the truth, even you could even just add truth serum to the game.
Either way i feel like all and all it will be a great game either way and i look forward to seeing the final game finished :)

  4. Hi Robyn. I love how detailed your DunDoc is - I can see you put in a lot of effort into it. I love that you included few of the drawings you did for the game, as its cool to see things designed specifically for your project.
    Good luck with the prototype!

  5. Hi Robyn, Really good Dundoc it had so much information and it definitely shows the effort you put into it, I liked your hand drawings for your concept they were good. I think the story of your game is really cool and interesting, I think this is one of them games that regardless of how the actual game plays will be fun as it has such a good story behind it. Seeing as it is undirected do you think you'll have to make it slightly easier than if you had a few clues about where to go and such so that the character isn't just wondering around for ages. I don't know if you were planning something similar to this but it could be cool if you when you were sniffing around trying to uncover the truth you also disappear and have to try escape. Good luck with your game if the level of effort you put into your GDD is anything to go by your game should be really good.

  6. Hi Robyn!
I really enjoyed reading your Game Design Document on DunDoc, I think your document is a great example of how much work goes into game development. After reading your game design document I can really see that you went into a lot of detail about all the different aspects of your game. I'm really looking forward to seeing how you're going to develop your game further because it looks like you really know where you want to go with them game from this point on. Your game idea is very interesting, I myself like playing mystery game even though I don't like horror. I know, I don't understand how that work out either! But, your game sounds very promising and I'm excited to see where and how you develop the game further on! Keep up the great work.

  7. Hi Robyn! Wow just read your GDD and I am amazed. You explained everything really clearly. Really well done and a good read, well done! I really like your game idea. I like the 'Cozy Game' aspect of the game but I know it will be really engaging at the same time. When playing some 'Cozy Games' the player doesn't necessarily feel engaged all the time. Your game is different, I feel like the constant mystery and suspense that will be throughout this game will keep it fun and exciting. This sounds like a game I would enjoy playing. I love to play cluedo and this reminds me of it in some ways. Will you be coming up with the riddles yourself? Will the sub characters be telling the player the riddles or will it be objects they find? I think it would be cool if it was a mixture between the both. Perhaps, the characters could give them clues but the objects they find will give them the riddles. Can't wait to see how it comes out! Good Luck:)

  8. Hi Robyn!
I really enjoyed reading your GDD. You went into a lot of details about your game and you seem to know what you want for every element of your game. I really like to idea of solving riddles as it will test players. Exploring the game world should be interesting in helping the players solve the riddles. This could be a relaxing game to play but at the same time still offer a challenge to the player. I like the inspiration of Tim Burton as it will give your game a creepy look to it and even give the game a horror element. The game can be good for players to test their growth mindset to see if they enjoy something like this. When exploring the game's world, will the player learn more about the mysterious island and the town? Looking forward to seeing your final game and good luck making it.

  9. Hi Robyn, I have just read through your Game Design Document on Dundoc, and I really enjoyed going through it, I was really impressed with how much information you had in your document, you really went into so much detail in each topic regarding your game, and this made it really easy to get a feel for what your game is all about. I also really enjoyed that you have so much visuals throughout your document, with pictures of your character inspirations, and also pictures and sketches to demonstrate how you want your game to look. I really like the old Tim Burton style that you are going for.I was just wondering what sort of riddles will you be incorporating into your game, and will you have a time limit to complete these riddles? I really like the concept of you game and I look forward to the end result, good luck with it!

  10. Hey Robyn. Just read through your Final GDD just there and I have to say, the idea you went for is pretty good! You really went for alot of detail and you seemd to have really thought this idea out from start to finish. You have done everything from characters, to concepts, inspiration, pictures etc. You have put in alot of work and are really assionate about this project indeed. The inspiration from Tim Burton was very left of field but is a clever idea, adds more atmosphere and identity to your game! Cant wait to see more and good luck!
