Time Strategies

Both of the articles that I read gave me a new insight into time management. The first article that I read was How to build a realistic study plan that you'll actually stick to. This article gives some suggestions on how to successfully manage study time, how to plan study goals and check them off when complete and how to review your schedule when the week is done. I thought the article was very informative in how it makes you look at the bigger picture of what your end goals are. I plan on using the techniques in this article in my daily routine now as I think it sounds very promising and efficient.
The second article that I read was Time management tips just for creatives. This article had some really good points that I'll definitely use myself after reading it. For example before it gets into the actual time management tips, the article discusses how to manage your energy first. It suggests that you find a time that works best for you so that you can maximize your work ethic. Early mornings are suggested to work best as it's a time before the day begins. I appreciated that one of the tips was on how to avoid procrastination as I think everyone can get distracted when trying to concentrate on work or study. It tells the reader to ensure that they take breaks and get the worst things out of the way first to get it done and over with. At the end of the article it has a section on how to use all of these tips which I thought was a good thing to put in as it is a lengthy article and it can be overwhelming to read. Overall I thought this article was very informative and it provided some very useful tips on time management.

I plan on sorting out what I need to do exactly in all of my modules and setting out my goals then. I think my biggest time challenges this year will be trying to juggle an allocated amount of time set for each module as well as balancing it all with my personal life. For this class I've planned my time management efficiently and evenly as I plan to work for 2 hours each day between Tuesday and Thursday.

Technology Tools

After thoroughly reading though the technology tools I've discovered that I'm familiar with half of them and unfamiliar with the rest. I'd never had a blog or experienced blogging before I had this class however I enjoy doing it now that I've familiarized myself with how the site works. I've used bookmarking before for important sites that I know I'll have to come back to at some point in time so I know how it works. As for Graphics Creation and Padlet I've never heard of these in my life however I'm willing to give them a good shot and try to get familiar with how they work. I've some experience from first year in editing images from using Adobe Photoshop and basic editing software on my phone.

I think the announcements blog is a great way to keep everyone in tune and up to date on the latest announcements as it's a simple platform to use and navigate. I've never had a class wiki before however it's a fun way of learning and interacting and it's also a new experience for myself and a lot of students. I always use Google Docs for any assignment that I do as it automatically saves my work as I write and everything gets saved to my Google Drive. It's also a quick and efficient way of sharing work with colleagues and lecturers.

Assignments first impressions

After reading through the descriptions of these assignments I think they sound very interesting and I look forward to starting them as they're diverse compared to assignments in my other modules. I think I'll enjoy going through the reading material as I'm an active reader. In my experience my other modules don't really have reading material everything is practical work or editing. I've never used Unity3D however after watching a couple of videos on it I'm looking forward to giving this a try!

I think blog comments are a great way of giving feedback to each other as we never really get to do this in most of our modules. Feedback from your peers is always important and I look forward to browsing other students' blogs.
As for the project I think that brainstorming is a good way to start and get the project going. Project feedback will also allow us to see what works and what could be improved.
The extra credit assignments are a good way to get some extra points for this module especially if you've any spare time. I'd definitely be interested in giving all of these a try as extra points are always a plus but also because I think they sound really interesting. The Wikipedia Trails stands out the most for me as I've never heard of anything like it and from what I've read it sounds like a good bit of fun.

Growth Mindset

I was first introduced to Carol Dweck upon watching these three videos, before that I had never heard of her. I was certainly intrigued by her meaning of the power of yet it made me look at things from a different perspective. I agree with her when she states that she thinks we've made huge mistakes within our educational system. I think this applies to the education systems outside of the US. Upon watching her three videos I think she's made some serious points about how we should go about raising children, teaching them to strive to do the best of their ability and hunger for harder work.

I'd be interested in learning more about the growth mindset this semester as I found these videos from Carol Dweck to be very interesting and thought provoking. My personal learning goals for this semester would be to stay calm and not overthink things as well as pushing myself to be on top of everything.

Introduction to a future graphic designer

My name is Robyn Mulhall, I'm 20 years old and live in Trim county Meath. Blue is my favorite colour. I attend ITB in Dublin and I'm a CDM Year 2 student. I enjoyed Year 1 of CDM apart from the Web dev module as it was draining and quite dull. My favorite modules so far have been photography, visual design fundamentals and visual creativity.
My favorite tv shows are The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Stranger Things. My hobbies include photography, painting (anything art related) and ballet. I've done ballet for the past 16 years and still enjoy it now.
I've one pet, a lilac British Shorthair cat named Anakin. He's a fat, fluffy cat with a serious attitude.  Here he is in all his glory:

I love listening to music and usually have earphones in my ears wherever I go. My favorite artists include The Killers, Coldplay, Hozier and Kings of Leon. I love horror movies and enjoy going to the cinema regularly.
Stephen King is my favorite author and The Shining is my favorite book! Some of my favorite movies are It's Kind Of A Funny Story, Stepbrothers Billy Elliot. As for my long term goals I hope to pursue a career in graphic design or photography once I get my degree.
My favorite food would be frozen raspberries, ice cream and fruit. All in moderation!
If I had one day of fun I'd more than likely spend it sleeping as college makes me exhausted.
I love animals, my favorite animals are penguins, pandas, cats and elephants.
I enjoy attending ITB. My first year of college was definitely a learning experience. I made new friends, improved my photography and design skills and learned new things such as making animations and editing videos. Photoshop was also a good class. it allowed me to get creative and let my mind express itself. I also did studio photography which was a lot of fun as we got to work in the studio once a week and shoot some pictures of objects or each other which was a great experience. I look forward to the rest of second year and I'm excited to see what the future holds.

Workshop 01

This topic of problem solving in the Traffic Lights Exercise is a topic that I'm not too familiar with. It's a fairly new topic for me however I found it to be very interesting and engaging as I worked together with my peers to figure it out and come to a conclusion. As we all grouped together we all looked at the exercise from a different perspective and came up with different theories as to how we could solve it. We each listened to each others suggestions and helped each other to develop our theories by stating what we thought would work and what wouldn't really work.

I discovered that working as a team proves to be efficient when we all put our heads together and attempt to solve the exercise. I learned that I work well as part of a group and with others while also enjoying it as we go along.

I felt that the delivery method was efficient with a simple layout that was easy to grasp however the actual understanding of the traffic lights themselves was difficult to understand. I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with different people as we all came up with various diverse ideas and theories on the traffic light exercise. It was a good experience working in groups and hearing peoples outputs as each person looked at the exercise differently.

I enjoyed writing about my experience as my experience with working in the groups worked out very well and I'd like to express that. It helps me to process my thoughts and reminisce on my group work experience as well as the exercise itself. I'd enjoy working in groups with an exercise similar to this one as it improved my communication skills and helped me broaden my thought process. It was a pleasant experience overall and I'm glad I got the opportunity to participate in this.

My thoughts on our first workshop.
